Hello, Hello!

Auf Wiedersehen

or, conversely;

I don't know why you say goodbye, I say Hello...

This will be my last post here on blogger. I've moved on to grander things over at my new home:

Frozen Falls

Finally made it out to Pisew falls to grab a couple shots before the ice melted. It's a shame all that snow kind of limited my available angles though.
Just good to be shooting again, hopefully I'm busting out of this winter slump.

Top photo is an HDR combined in Photomatix, second shot is Au Natural.

Northern Lights over the Lake

DSC_4265 DSC_4264DSC_4261DSC_4267

I was over at a friend's house this weekend when my fiance told me the lights were out. I ran home (thank goodness he lives just a couple doors down) grabbed my camera and went down to the lake to grab these shots of the lights. I love how they're reflected on the water. It's a shame the mosquitoes were devouring me alive, or I might have stayed a little longer before retreating back inside.

Highway 373

My Fiance's brothers' band, Highway 373 (that's them on acoustic guitar and fiddle) were opening for Shane Yellowbird last night at York Boat Days. They asked me to get some pictures of them for their website, so I was running around in front of the stage like a starry eyed fan swapping lenses and trying different things. (ISO 800 with a 50mm f/1.8 makes for some nice, colourful shots btw) I was really working out my ancient eBay lenses, those small apertures were wonderful. Although, manually focusing on a moving singer isn't one of the easiest thing's I've ever done.

Roadside Sunsets

Driving back from Winnipeg Monday evening, I couldn't help but to pull over and dig the camera out from the back of the Jeep. The Orange one was just a little ways past Grand Rapids. The top one is my favorite. I was just about to hit the gravel road on Highway 373 when I drove past this little stream and actually pulled a u-turn to go back and get a shot of it.

It was dark, like, 1/6 of a second @ f/4.5 ISO 800 dark. And I had no tripod (well, I did, but I wasn't about to dig it out while the mosquitoes were busily eating me alive)

Canada Day 2008

Norway House put on a fairly decent show this year, good variety, reasonable length. They're still pretty slow, only firing off one or two at a time, but hey, can't complain.

I positioned myself along the shore near the united church, so I had a nice distance between me and the launch site, plus, with it just being on the other side of the bay, I could take advantage of the water to get some nice foreground reflections. (I love the orange glow on the water in the last shot)

Only damper on the entire night? I think every single Mayfly within a 400 mile radius showed up for the show as well. They blanked the road (and everything else) so thoroughly that you could barely see the pavement (vehicle, myself etc. )

Canada Day's Sunset

Showed up eary for the Fireworks, and there just happened to be a nice pink and orange glow hiting the clouds, so I grabbed my camera and snapped a couple quick frames of the setting sun.

Summertime (Finally)

A couple weeks ago, the boss man came to town, we toured the town, saw the sight, and I took him out to pine creek to do a little fishing (unfortunately, the only thing biting was the mosquitoes) The following day, we took a trip over to neighboring Cross Lake for a quick meeting. It's a good thing he likes photography as much as I do, makes it easy to convince him that we should pull over on the side of the road to get a quick picture or two!

The Forks, Winnipeg

I was recently down in Winnipeg for some work related courses, but I managed to find some time to wander around the Forks downtown. I had forgotten how heavy that backpack can get after wandering around with it on for a couple hours!

Mental Block

I've been in a slump for the past while, just haven't seen anything that motivates me to get out and shoot. (Plus, the new job, the move and being sick for a couple weeks didn't really help things)

I decided last night I'm going to go out and take some sunset pictures, It was great to get out and shoot again, even if I only got a couple shots that I liked.
